Three-day remand for two men as Sarawak police probe convenience store fire cases

KUCHING, Sept 23 — Two men aged 40 and 23 were remanded for three days by the Magistrates’ Court here today to assist investigations into a case of mischief by fire involving a convenience store along Jalan Green here.

Senior Court Registrar Syazwani Sajeli allowed the remand application after hearing submissions by investigating officer Insp Tan Chiang Fook and their counsel Daniel Ling.

The court ordered both suspects to be remanded for three days from Sept 23 to Sept 26 to assist investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code.

It was reported that the incident occurred at the premises in Jalan Green, Sin Sin Park here at about 8.30pm on Sept 20.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested at a premises in Sibu at about 2.40pm on Sept 22, while the other was arrested later the same day at about 9.30pm at a cafe along Jalan Nanas, Sarikei.

The case is one of two incidents of mischief by fire reported in Kuching and Sri Aman on Sept 20, involving premises belonging to the same convenience store chain.

Three suspects have been arrested and remanded to assist investigations into both incidents. — The Borneo Post
