Background & Context

The original 'The Princess and the Frog' was released in 2009, marking a significant milestone in Disney's foray into computer-generated animation. The film, set in 1920s New Orleans, follows the story of Tiana, a hardworking and ambitious young woman who dreams of opening her own restaurant, and Prince Naveen, a charming but arrogant prince who has been turned into a frog by the voodoo sorcerer, Dr. Facilier.

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $267 million worldwide and earning widespread acclaim for its vibrant animation, memorable characters, and catchy musical numbers. Since its release, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel or spin-off, and it seems their patience is finally being rewarded.

Key Details

According to reports, Disney is currently in talks with Tony Award-nominated director Robert O'Hara and actor Colman Domingo to co-write the script for the live-action remake. Domingo, known for his work on 'Euphoria' and 'Fear the Walking Dead', brings a wealth of experience in storytelling and character development to the project, while O'Hara, a veteran of stage and screen, is known for his innovative and imaginative approach to storytelling.

The new film will reportedly feature a fresh story, separate from the original narrative, which will allow the filmmakers to explore new themes and characters while still maintaining the essence of the beloved classic. This approach is in line with Disney's recent trend of revamping classic stories with new twists and turns, and is likely to appeal to both old and new fans of the franchise.
