KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — A male teacher in his 30s has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations into allegations of physical sexual assault involving a 13-year-old boy, police said.
The remand order was granted by the Kuala Terengganu Magistrates’ Court and runs from today until June 21, BuletinTV3 reported.
According to Kuala Terengganu district police chief Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor, a report was lodged by the victim at 9.38am yesterday.
The victim alleged that the incident took place on June 4 at about 8am inside a hotel in Kuala Terengganu.
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is known to the victim and had previously been his teacher at primary school,” he said in a statement today.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect to assist in investigations.
The case is being investigated under Sections 14(a), 14(d) and 15B(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Police are completing investigation papers before referring the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.
In a related development, ACP Azli said police in Kuala Terengganu opened four investigation papers involving sexual offences against children between June 1 and 14.
He also urged parents to educate children early on sexual harassment awareness and to closely monitor their movements to prevent them from becoming victims.
“Students and parents must be brave to come forward to expose such despicable acts and not keep silent out of shame or fear,” he said.
