Signalling fault throws KTM Komuter and ETS schedules off track, delays top five hours

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — A signalling system disruption between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu yesterday delayed KTM Komuter and ETS services by up to five hours.

In a statement today, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said the worst KTM Komuter delay was recorded by Train No. 2389 at 230 minutes, while ETS service EP9138 from KL Sentral to Butterworth was delayed by 305 minutes.

Preliminary checks found that a damaged system component had disrupted the signalling system, although the cause of the damage is still being investigated.

“The signalling system disruption had a knock-on effect on the movement and schedules of other trains passing through the sector, particularly services to and from the north,” the statement read.

KTMB said scheduled Rawang-Ipoh Double Tracking upgrade works were also being carried out in stages along the affected route yesterday and today, requiring adjustments to train schedules.

The signalling fault during the works further restricted train movements and compounded delays to several KTM Komuter and ETS services, it said.

Repair works were completed at 5.15am today, with the first Komuter train from Tanjung Malim departing at 5.45am.

KTMB said KTM Komuter and ETS services have since returned to normal, although some trains remain subject to delays of up to 30 minutes from their original schedules due to the signalling fault along the Batang Kali route.

The national rail operator apologised to affected passengers and said full fare refunds would be given to those who chose not to continue their journey because of the disruption, subject to prevailing procedures. — Bernama
