Sarawak haze persists: Serian, Kuching, Samarahan in ‘Hazardous’ zone

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Three areas in Sarawak recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at hazardous levels as of 8 am today, with the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) recording the highest reading at 320.

Based on data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the other two areas with hazardous API levels were Kuching (318) and Samarahan (302).

Meanwhile, five areas in Sarawak recorded API readings of very unhealthy levels, namely Sibu (292), Sarikei (283), Mukah (241), Bintulu (226), and Sri Aman (214).

A total of 16 stations recorded API readings at the unhealthy level, with Samalaju, Sarawak, recording the highest reading at 196, followed by Kapit, Sarawak (187), Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic, Sabah (185), ILP Miri, Sarawak (183), and Labuan (181).

Also recording unhealthy readings were Miri, Sarawak (181), Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (179), Kimanis, Sabah (175), Keningau, Sabah (173), Limbang, Sarawak (173), Johan Setia, Selangor (161), Sandakan, Sabah (152), Putrajaya (148), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (137), Tawau, Sabah (123), and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (116).

Meanwhile, 44 stations recorded readings at moderate levels.

API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are hazardous. — Bernama
