Barbie offered up a taste of rock star Ryan Gosling, but now there’s more on the way.
Dead Man’s Bones, the rock duo comprised of Gosling and Zach Shields, announced on the band’s Instagram on Thursday that new music is coming Oct. 27. The pair put out their first and only album, a self-titled collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, in 2009, and 17 years later it appears it’s time for a comeback.
Gosling and Shields were known for their spooky sound, with songs that centered on ghosts and monsters. They appear to be sticking to that theme with their Halloween-season return, as the announcement video features a haunting man telling the viewer, “Dead man’s bones must wait to rise, from the house where shadows cry. All of this must change Oct. 27, when our ghosts must leave our world for this, to dance with us at twilight time, and bring your hand to lie in mine.” The voice of a young girl — likely one of Gosling’s two daughters — yells the release date.
Gosling’s partner Eva Mendes had begun to recently tease the band’s return, posting on her page, “Trying to summon new music from Dead Man’s Bones” and then following the confirmation, she wrote, “He came through on his promise to me.”
Though the group has been dormant for years, Gosling has showed off his singing chops in La La Land and Barbie, earning a Grammy nomination for the latter with his performance of “I’m Just Ken.” He famously brought down the house with a live performance of the song at the Oscars in 2024.
The music adds to a very busy time of life for star, who is in the middle of an Oscar campaign for Project Hail Mary and has Star Wars: Starfighter coming out next year, along with Marvel’s Ghost Rider also on the horizon.
