Quenton Tarantion has long said he’ll be retiring after his 10th feature film, but fans shouldn’t worry yet. While the “Pulp Fiction” director confirmed he’d finished penning the script to his final project, he won’t be getting much further with it until his newly opened play, “The Popinjay Cavalier,” closes.

Tarantino made the statement on a recent episode of “The Graham Norton Show,” where he joined the host alongside fellow guests Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Farrell and Gemma Chan. It was his first appearance on the show in more than a decade.

“I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do,” Tarantino said.

He also gave audiences more insight into “The Popinjay Cavalier,” which he said started as a screenplay before the director realized “it really worked as a play.” “I think it will be thrilling,” he said.

Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, “The Popinjay Cavalier” will open at London’s Phoenix Theatre next March, following previews in late Feb. The play, described as a “swashbuckling comedy,” is set to run for three months, closing on June 13. “I’m keen with anticipation to give the West End a great night out,” Tarantino said in a statement when the show was announced.

Tarantino’s most recent release remains “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which came out in 2019 and starred Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Margaret Qualley and more. Pitt won the Oscar for best supporting actor that year, as did Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh for best production design. Tarantino was also nominated for best picture and best director, while DiCaprio was nominated for best actor.
