The Santa Fe International Film Festival (SFIFF) has announced this year’s lineup, which will open with Robert Burnett’s “In Memoriam,” starring Marc Maron, and close with James Gray’s “Paper Tiger,” starring Adam Driver and Miles Teller.
Taking Place Oct. 14-19 in Santa Fe, N.M., the festival’s Centerpiece program will feature Peter Farrelly’s “I Play Rocky” and Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine,” which stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits and Parker Posey.
“This year’s program embodies the mandate of our festival — to ensure both established and emerging filmmakers are given the opportunity to tell stories that inspire, challenge and connect with audiences,” said Jacques Paisner, the artistic director of SFIFF.
Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary, “Musk,” will also be featured at the festival, alongside Nanette Burstein’s “Carl Sagan: We Are Made of Star Stuff,” Danny Boyle’s “Ink” and Ava DuVernay’s “14th.” Simon Stone’s “Elsinore” with Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman will be featured at The Spotlight presentation.
SFIFF will also include the Out of Competition program, which highlights international narrative features and documentaries, including Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord” and Noah Segan’s “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.” The Competition program showcases the new generation of international filmmakers across narrative and documentary films, such as Ali Asgari’s “A Bit of Light” and Jérémy Comte’s “Paradise.”
The Special Screenings program will feature “Major Barbara” and “Our Effed Up World,” while the New Mexico program spotlights four films showcasing the state and its communities. Actress and singer Pam Grier will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, and actor Zahn McClarnon will receive the Visionary Award.
