Would you help your office move for the sake of "team building"?
Maybe you're expected to pitch in from time to time to help out around the office. You don't do it because you have to, but you do it because it's no skin off your back and it's the right thing to do. Not everything has to be in your job description for you to do it, because sometimes you need to go above and beyond. But you can definitely draw the line somewhere. Putting your body in harm's way is one of those things you should definitely avoid doing on the job unless you absolutely have to. Plenty of jobs require some amount of physical risk, and you should have the proper protection for those. But for an office job? You should stay clear of that.
Sometimes, though, bosses want to cut corners, and the easiest way to do that is to make your employees do things outside of their job description. Instead of hiring someone new, they want to squeeze tasks into the schedules of the people who already work there. This can only take you so far. Employees don't like feeling taken advantage of or like they're going to burn out faster than they should. The best option usually is to hire someone for the job. But there isn't always the money for that, so you end up in situations like this. One that should have been avoided at all costs.
