Parenting is an unpaid full-time job.
This mom refused to take the figurative backseat in her own carpool and decided instead to prioritize her career, her family, and most importantly, her valuable time.
Many moms and dads also have a career to juggle on top of their family life, which can get hectic. Balancing soccer schedules, school drop-offs, and classroom field trips on top of quarterly goals and company meetings, calendars become king, and tight schedules are critical; they're the lifeline that keeps busy families from getting buried in their responsibilities.
Because of this, it's not uncommon for parents to lean on those around them, like family members or other parents, to help pick up the slack wherever they can. As a part of a carpool, parents can carve out precious 30-minute intervals here and there to prep meals, vacuum the house, or even get to work early.
If the carpool schedule gets disrupted, everything is disrupted.
Likewise, in this story, a morning carpool was always running late because of a mom's aunt's kids. They were the same age as her offspring, and they lived nearby, so earlier in the school year, it made sense for the cousins to hitch a ride together in the morning and in the afternoon. However, when the aunt's kids proved to be chronically late, sometimes dashing out of the house 15 minutes later than they should have, the mom got frustrated. She was constantly late for work and ended up having to change her schedule to accommodate her tardiness, upending the delicate balance of her household's schedule.
When the aunt showed no remorse and no signs of hustling the kids out the door faster in the morning, this mom had to do what she had to do to keep her own family on track.
If the carpool becomes a burden, it's no longer the saving grace that buys you 30 minutes; it's the time vortex stealing your morning relaxation and sabotaging your family's peace. Anything that derails the family schedule is a habit that needs to be broken immediately. Like tardiness, a complete disregard for someone's time cannot be tolerated, lest you become a doormat to the family members who forget you most.
