IPOH, Sept 17 — A 36-year-old woman lost RM41,215 after falling victim to an online job scam and a non-existent investment scheme recently.
Muallim district police chief Supt Khalid Mohamad said the victim received a job offer through WhatsApp on September 13, with rewards offered for completing product evaluation tasks on the Shopee platform.
He said the victim was subsequently instructed to make several money transfers to bank accounts provided by the suspect.
“On September 15, the victim made six transactions totalling RM41,215 before being asked to make an additional payment of RM32,800. The victim realised that she had likely been scammed and did not proceed with the payment,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
