Clips from the stream went viral on social media as it took place, including on sites like Reddit and X / Twitter. Several of these clips inspired controversy online, including a clip of Piker having his phone confiscated and reportedly searched by Chinese police while at Tiananmen square for showing a Mao Zedong meme. A subsequent clip of Piker responding to the incident and claiming that the American government is still worse than the Chinese government also sparked controversy, along with a clip of Piker saying he has "no patriotism" in his heart for America. Rumors that Piker was arrested in China also began to spread online, although these rumors were false.
Background
First Day / Tiananmen Square Mao Meme Incident
On November 10th, 2025, Hasan Piker hosted his first Twitch stream from China, gaining over 850,000 views in two days. Notably, about two-and-a-half hours into the stream, Piker visited Tiananmen Square for a flag raising ceremony. While attending the ceremony, someone on Piker's crew showed off a Red Sun In The Sky meme where Piker's face has been placed onto Mao Zedong's body. The stream went down for about 10 minutes after the cops approached Piker and his crew. The clip was reuploaded that day by X user @DrewPavlou and shortly after, was uploaded to the /r/LivestreamFail subreddit, garnering over 49,000 likes and 5 million views on the former and 22,000 upvotes on the latter in two days.

Developments
"No Patriotism" Clip
Later on in the November 10th, 2025 stream, which carried over to the next day in China, Piker was clipped saying that he has "no patriotism" in his heart for America, explaining that he cares about the people. In the full clip, which comes around the 3:37:00 timestamp, Piker is talking about how interesting it is to see how many people attended the flag raising. He says, "I don't have any sort of patriotism in my heart for America [or] just in general. I care about people, so for me, it's hard to comprehend. But I do understand it in some ways." The clip was uploaded by numerous people, including X user @EndWokeness, on November 11th, garnering over 7,100 likes in a day.

Response To Mao Meme Incident
About 4:40:00 into the November 10th, 2025 stream, Piker addresses the incident where his phone was searched. In his response, Piker claims that the flag raising ceremony is "not a thing that white people normally go to." He assumes that the Chinese police are more attentive to white people who might "do some fuck shit" at the ceremony. He says that the police officer "thought he saw something on the phone" to make a mockery of the Chinese government and didn't realize they were "swagged out white boys who love China." He says the incident was solved by explaining himself to the police, then says he wants to show Americans that China won't arrest people for a meme. He then says "the further west you go, the worse cops get," mentioning American and European cops and saying American cops are the worst out of all of them. The clip was uploaded by X user @Awk20000 on November 11th, garnering over 2 million views in a day.

Interview With Li Jingjing
On November 11th, 2025, Chinese journalist Li Jingjing posted a series of photos to X of herself with Piker, who sat down with her for an interview. The post reads, "I sat down with Hasan Piker, who just started his long-awaited trip to China. He will travel across several cites in two weeks," garnering over 10,000 likes in a day. The interview was not livestreamed and Jingjing teased a later release date.
The interview garnered some controversy online from people who claimed that Jingjing is a propagandist. For example, on November 12th, X user @DrewPavlou, a known critic of Piker, posted an image of Piker with Jingjing and a meme posted by Jingjing about propaganda, writing, "She is known for travelling to Xinjiang and doing smiling dances in Uyghur costumes to try prove that there is no mass sterilization campaign against Uyghurs," garnering over 3,000 likes in under a day.
Online Reactions
The streams from China inspired many reactions online, including some criticism from people believing the trip acted as a form of pro-Chinese Communist Party propaganda. Others defended Piker.
On November 11th, 2025, streamer xQc uploaded a video to his YouTube channel reacting to Piker's trip to China in a critical manner, garnering over 47,000 views in under a day.
That same day, X user @Asmongold_X posted a clip of streamer Asmongold reacting to portions of the streams, criticizing Piker for referring to himself as white, suggesting that Piker sometimes does not identify as white, garnering over 3,500 likes in a day.
Asmongold points out the hypocrisy in Hasan suddenly claiming he's white, and his comparison on police in China vs. the USA.
Hasan also partakes in the horseshoe theory of conforming with racial profiling as long as it's China doing it. https://t.co/thKc5Dgxzm pic.twitter.com/ysSdAeWV0Y
