Hannah Yeoh: Transport problems threatening school attendance of 989 Labuan students, 437 to get aid

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — A total of 989 students from 25 schools in the Federal Territory of Labuan have been identified as facing school attendance issues, with transportation among the main contributing factors.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, in a post on Facebook, said that, as a start, 437 students across six schools would receive assistance through the Student School Transportation Facility in the Federal Territory of Labuan.

She said the initiative was being implemented through collaboration between the Federal Territories Department and Labuan Corporation, the Labuan Federal Territory Education Department, schools, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and the industry, particularly the Labuan Mini Bus Operators Association.

Hannah said the collaboration aimed to ensure that transportation issues would no longer hinder students from attending school.

“There are children who want to go to school. What stands in their way is not a lack of ambition, but the journey to reach the place where they build their future.

“Their future should not be stalled simply because getting to school is difficult,” she said in a Facebook post. — Bernama
