NAGOYA, Sept 26 — Malaysia’s national professional men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, are one step away from securing a medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after advancing to the quarterfinals following a straight-set victory over Japan’s Yugo Kobayashi-Takuro Hoki today.

During the match held at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, the national pair faced no major issues in claiming a 21-19, 21-16 straight-set win.

Waiting for the national pair in tomorrow’s quarterfinal round will be either China’s Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang or Thailand’s Chaloempoen Charoenkitamorn-Worrapol Thongsa-nga, who are set to play in another match later today.

Meanwhile, another national men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Tee Kai Wun, fell short of reaching the quarterfinals of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after bowing out to South Korea’s world number one pair, Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae, in straight sets of 21-19, 21-16.

In the women’s doubles event, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah lived up to expectations by easily defeating Thailand’s Napapakorn Tungkasatan-Hathaihip 21-8, 21-12.

The national pair is scheduled to face India’s Gayatri Gopichand-Treesa Jolly, who pulled off an upset by defeating the host country’s pair 24-22, 21-18.
