  • AITJ for KICKING my aunt out of my house because she demanded i give my gaming PC to her son?

I (24F) really need to know if i messed up here bcoz my family is blowing up my phone.

  • So, i work from home and i'm also a gamer. I saved up for 2 years to build my own pc. Its my baby. It has a glass case, lights, the whole setup. It sits on my desk in the living room because my apartment is small.

  • She worked hard to keep her computer clean, safe, and functioning at the highest level. Although to some, a computer is just a computer. Some people think that laptops are just made for emails, Facebook, and nothing else, but to a gamer, who's researched for years about RAM, computer chips, programmable keyboard lights, graphics cards, and processors, a computer is more than just a digital messaging pigeon: It's a highly capable machine.

  • Yesterday, my aunt (moms sister) came over to visit with my cousin (10M). We were just talking and having coffee when my cousin saw my computer. he immediately ran over and asked if he could play fortnite on it.

  • I told him nicely, sorry buddy, thats for my work and its really expensive, so nobody touches it but me.

  • He started whining a bit, but he went back to the couch. But then my aunt chimed in. She said, oh come on, dont be stingy. Hes bored. Just let him play for 30 minutes.

  • I explained again that i have important work files on there and i dont let kids. use it. i offered to put the tv on for him instead.

  • If the kid needed to stare at a screen so badly, why wasn't the TV enough?

The aunt clearly didn't respect the boundaries of their niece, because they started getting pushy and digging their heels in. Seems to me like this entire family has a problem with screen time, especially when a tantrum is bubbling up on the horizon.

  • My aunt got annoyed. She stood up and said, u are a grown woman, why do u even need a computer like that? Hes a child and he wants to play. You are being selfish.

  • She actually walked over to the desk and tried to turn the monitor on. I snapped. I stood between her and the desk and told her she needed to leave right now. i said she was being disrespectful to my home and my property.

  • Computers aren't a toy. If anyone remembers the days when a computer was so big it required an entire room to itself, you'll recall that computers aren't just some Game Boy you can fold up and throw in your backpack. They're designed to connect the world, enter games beyond your imagination, and to surf the web to high heck infinity.

Even the 10-year-old seemed to respect his cousin more than the aunt did. Or at least he was aware that the computer was more than just a toy.

  • She started screaming that i was treating family like trash over a stupid toy. She grabbed her kid and stormed out.

  • Now my mom is calling me saying i was too harsh and i should have just let him play to keep the peace. She says i embarrassed her sister.

  • I dont think i did anything wrong, but everyone is making me feel guilty.

  • My aunt demanded i let her 10 year old son play on my expensive work/gaming PC. When i said no, she tried to use it anyway. I kicked her out and now my family says i'm aj

  • Perhaps she just wanted to avoid a meltdown from her 10-year-old, but in the process, she turned into the beast herself.

  • Nokoma79 Absolutely NTA Your stuff, your choice. That child will survive a few minutes without a screen.

  • Lonely-Sti honestly your aunt sounds entitled as h_l. the audacity to try and turn on your computer after you already said no is wild

  • you dont owe anyone access to your expensive equipment especially when its your work setup. doesnt matter if hes family or bored your house your -

  • rules. she completely overstepped when she physically tried to use it after you declined your family can be mad all they want but they werent
