Five ECRL workers injured after Hilux hits road barrier on East Coast Expressway

MARAN, Sept 30 — Five East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project workers, including four Chinese nationals, were reportedly injured after the pickup truck they were travelling in lost control while overtaking a lorry on the East Coast Expressway yesterday.

According to Berita Harian, Maran police chief Supt Wong Kim Wai said the Toyota Hilux, driven by a Malaysian man and carrying four passengers, was travelling from the ECRL project office in Maran towards Lanchang, Temerloh, when the crash occurred at Kilometer 155 at about 3.45pm.

“The Toyota Hilux lost control while attempting to overtake a lorry, causing the vehicle to veer off to the left side of the road,” Wong was quoted as saying.

He said the pickup then spun before hitting a road barrier, adding that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

All five occupants were taken by ambulance to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh for further treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while Wong said the exact cause of the accident remained under investigation.
