KANGAR, Sept 13 — The body of a fisherman who fell into the sea while fishing near Pulau Batu Layang, Sungai Baru here yesterday, was found about 400 metres from the island today.

The victim was identified as Khairul Amir Bahroom, 33, who was reported missing at about 3.30 am yesterday while out at sea with his elder brother.

Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Nak Rong A/L Si Prom said the body was discovered by local fishermen and the finding was reported to the search and rescue operation team this morning.

“The operation team received information from the fishing community about the discovery of a body approximately 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang,” he said in a statement today.

He said Bot Benteng 1207 subsequently retrieved the body and brought it to the Kuala Perlis Customs Jetty before handing it over to police for further action.

Kangar District Police Chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that the body would be taken to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) for a post-mortem. — Bernama
