When you forget a precious item at a friend's care, how long are you willing to wait before you venture out to get it back?

Speaking as a forgetful person with at least one type of ADHD, I forget stuff at random places all the time. I've had to replace my AirPod case twice now because I keep forgetting mine on the train, and I can't even tell you how many pairs of sunglasses I lost in 2025 alone.

This also means that my lovely friends usually find at least one of my belongings whenever I hang out at their home, or even whenever they drive me in their car. It's almost tradition now: we spend time together, I leave, and then they text me a picture of the thing I left behind, and I let them know when I'll be around to pick it up.

Every single step in this tradition is really important, because if my friends didn't hold on to my stuff after they got left behind, I would be down money and left without many items that actually mean a lot to me. And just as important, I always go and pick these belongings up, ensuring that they don't get completely forgotten or lost at someone else's home before I have a chance to get them back.

When the woman in the story below let two years pass without picking up her sunglasses from her friend's house, it was clear, at least to me, that she was never going to get those sunglasses back. How could she expect her friend to hold on to this pair of glasses all this time, when she didn't even make an effort to come get them, or show her friend any sign that these glasses were important to her?

But, alas, two years after the initial separation, this woman decided she wanted the expensive sunglasses back, and was shocked when her friend told her they had no clue where they were anymore. She went as far as blaming her friend for "badly taking care" of the sunglasses, and even demanded they provide her with a replacement pair…

As someone who has been in her shoes plenty of times, I would never reacted this way, but keep scrolling to read the full story to decide whether or not you agree with me…
