The heat wave that has blanketed Los Angeles for more than a week broke Monday afternoon just in time for TV movers and shakers to gather on an indigo-colored carpet outside the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles for the 78th annual Emmy Awards.

The assembly of top leaders this time included some fresh faces, including newly appointed Apple CEO John Ternus and Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro. Ternus told Variety he was enjoying his first major award show, especially with Apple TV so well positioned with a big haul of nominations for “Widow’s Bay,” “Shrinking,” “Pluribus” and more.”

“I might be the world’s biggest Apple TV fan,” Ternus said, assuring that he is a big consumer of TV and film. “I love the shows, I love the movies and the work that we’ve done, and it’s only been seven years. There’s so much good content. There’s so many great stories, and we’re just going to keep building on that.”
