  • Two pharmacists giving prescription medications to customer in a pharmacy

Two pharmacists, the only pharmacists employed at this pharmacy, work together at the counter.

  • The employees in this story cannot even take a day off, because there are only two employees to man a whole pharmacy! There used to be three, but the company is doing so poorly that they had to let one of their colleagues go. They need to leave this sinking ship, and quickly!

  • My boss let someone go. The remaining employees not allowed to take off ever.

Hi all! I work for a private company that isn't doing too well. We went from 3 employees (one takes off, the other can cover), now to just 2.

  • With this being said, our hours have increased (we're hourly) but pay hasn't. We also "cannot take off for any non- essential reason as no one can cover the person out." If sick, we were told to "come in and wear a mask." Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?

  • Survive 1014 "My employment agreement says I vacation days and have sick days. I am notifying you I am using a vacation days on DAY MONTH through DAY MONTH. Thank you."

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply No employee agreement unfortunately, this is a private pharmacy.

  • so-much-wow If they're that short on staff that they need to try this, you own them. Take whatever time off you want, they won't do anything about it. Also look for a new job because a) not worth the hassle and b) they're going to go out of business and leave you with unpaid wages.

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply They're short staffed by choice, they don't want to hire/keep another person.

  • LikeABundleOfHay What country are you in? That's illegal where I live.

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply US. If one person takes off, tasks fall on the other employee.

  • Shadow_84 I hope you mean by hours increase but not pay that your hourly didn't increase.

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply Right. Down a person (more responsibility on me), my hours have increased, hourly pay remaining the same.

  • MrGumburcules Are they trying not to pay you overtime (1.5x)? If so I'm pretty certain that's illegal

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply no overtime, they're keeping our hourly pay the same

  • humanity_go_boom Like you work 45 hours and only get paid straight time for 40? Unless you're salaried, that's quite illegal. Even if you are salaried, you may be misclassified as such.

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply I'm not sure if i don't understand, but those extra 5 hours, i'm receiving normal pay

  • alemyrsdream If they can't afford to have more than 2 employees they're not doing well.

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply You're right.

  • citizenkane86 Are you working more than 40 hours a week? They don't get to choose what is overtime at that point

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply yes, working 45 hours

  • Survive 1014 Your offer sheet doesnt pay your pay and benefits listed?

  • rnbme Original Poster's Reply nope
