  • I was finally enjoying work and then BAM, I get a new manager.

Worked harder than I have ever worked the entirety of last year because I was working for an incredibly nice guy.

  • He saw the work I did and gave me extra pay, free days off, etc. It was very give and take and he respected the h I out of me and the whole team.

  • November they say a new manager got hired to take over my team specifically since nice manager is being promoted and can't be handling employees directly anymore.

  • New guy just started taking responsibility for us 2-3 weeks ago and holy h I he is the most micromanaging, Al obsessed tool I have ever met.

  • Every meeting is hostile and accusatory. If my Microsoft teams doesn't show green for exactly 7.5 hours in a day then I am getting yelled at in public meetings with other people.

  • Nevermind I have 2 hours of meetings a day in person where I don't have my laptop.

  • I was planning to be at this company long term but already looking for new work.

  • Beyond upset and frustrated.

  • A lot of people think that a “good employee” will be good no matter what environment you put them in, but that's simply not true. There are many internally motivated people in the workforce who lose that motivation when they realize that those around them are either incompetent or unable to accommodate their ambition. Nobody can be completely internally motivated. Everyone wants their boss to recognize when they've done a good job, and if a great employee never gets any kind of pat on the back, promotion, or raise, they are not going to stay at that company for very long.

  • thegloracle Is your old boss the new guy's direct manager? That could be a simple, casual convo in the elevator one day...

  • BeelnTheHiveMind Original Poster's Reply This is what I did today. I am not the only one getting annoyed with him and without name dropping anyone I went to my old manager (who is the new managers boss) and tell him I am having an extremely hard time with this new guy and others are as well and had a long talk. So maybe something happens. We will see

  • If his old manager is as good as he says he is, maybe he can out-manage his current manager and morph him into a competent manager! While a good manager can do a lot for an employee, they cannot change their entire personality. If this manager is the kind of guy who screams over nothing, there might not be anything they can do to change that. If the employee's old manager is as good as he says he is, he would reprimand and even fire his current manager for his deranged behavior.

  • Jassida Don't know where you are but if this happened to me I would immediately start pushing back via correct process. I'm in England and have 2yrs + service so although they could insta fire me, I would win a tribunal. Otherwise immediately start looking for a new job and don't look back as this person has either been chosen for this reason or will ruin you before they get fired. Send them an email outlining your concerns and ask for a meeting to discuss If it doesn't get a satisfactory reply,

  • BeelnTheHiveMind Original Poster's Reply That's what I did today. I'm in Canada but we have similar rules. I went to my old manager and explained the situation and said I have a hard time with this new guy. I got a big promotion last year under my old manager and have had outstanding reviews the past 2 years which were under 2 different managers. So this is really the first time any issues have ever come up. I believe the conversation with the old manager went well and he understands the signifi

  • Jassida I had this exact thing to a similar degree. Joined and then the person got promoted Everyone seemed to love the new guy but I would never have joined if he'd interviewed me

  • BeelnTheHiveMind Original Poster's Reply In the last week I have gotten messages from 6 different people complaining about the guy. This new guy isn't sitting well with anyone

  • Another_Random_Chap Had this once, so I talked to his boss and explained the issues he was causing. His boss talked to the other members of the team who all expressed the same opinions, and the boss got moved to another team. I left the company shortly afterwards, but was asked back a couple of years later. I said yes, but on the condition that ex-boss was nowhere near my management chain. Turned out he had been eased out of the company about a year after I left after he damaged several other te

  • BeelnTheHiveMind Original Poster's Reply That's what I did today and I mentioned the fact that 6 other team members have expressed their dislike of the guy to me. He said he was gonna investigate so hopefully he asks them and they give their honest opinion. I got two messages this week directly saying "f this guy". But if my old manager asks what their opinion is and they clam up and go "oh he's fine" then that kinda f_____s me. I didn't name drop anyone so we will see.

  • crazy_meals I have the exact same thing going on right now. He's that much of a shill, ive told them straight, ill be looking for a new job. I've worked public and private sector and had a mixture of bossess. Itll pass, but start documenting everything. Try and break off from their bs to a place of not needing their validation. Seek peace and just remember its a job not your life!!! Good luck!!!

  • rufustphish people quit bad managers, not bad jobs, get a new manager.

  • Someone's dream job can turn into a dream nightmare in one day with the onboarding of one bad apple.

  • Stolen Wishes2 Or even more formal. Good upper managers want to know about bad lower managers.

  • Supergoid Take it to the new boss's boss (as long as you know he's not the one who nepo-hired your micromanager...). "The work environment is becoming increasingly stressful and I'm worried we're going to loose people..." "Micro-boss yells at a number of people about metrics every day, but it's not physically possible to obtain them when John is in F2F client meetings for a few hours every day, just like the rest of us." "I'm worried this will lead to lower staff retention and I don't have the t
