KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation into a viral theatre performance video that allegedly mocks the five principles of the Rukun Negara and contains racially sensitive remarks.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that the report on the case was lodged at the Jalan Tun Razak Police Station under the Wangsa Maju District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 8.30pm yesterday.

He said a complainant lodged the report after spotting a stage performance video clip uploaded by the Instagram account @THEFEVERKINETIC. The clip was believed to have been deleted before a Facebook user re-shared it.

“The investigation into this case will be fully conducted by Bukit Aman's USJT. We expect several more police reports on the same issue to be lodged nationwide, and all will be referred to the initial report in Wangsa Maju,” he said when contacted today.

The 10-minute video clip features five actors reciting each principle of the Rukun Negara, with statements that could be considered racially sensitive.

Police said an initial review found the video's content could cause public concern and affect social harmony.

Checks revealed that The Fever Kinetic is an intercultural physical theatre group founded by a local choreographer, with bases in Malaysia and London, United Kingdom.

The clip is believed to be a recording of a theatre performance staged during the Theatre for The Arts event in 2018. The group re-uploaded it for the recent Malaysia Day celebrations. — Bernama
