KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — PAS should walk away from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and restart its political ambitions with Umno under the Muafakat Nasional (MN) banner if rumours of that pact are true, Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said today.
In a Facebook post, he asserted that PAS had become “more of a liability than an asset” to the PN coalition, amid ongoing tensions between the two parties.
“If the rumours are true that PAS has already held negotiations with Umno, then would it not be better and more appropriate for PAS to voluntarily leave PN and join Umno in Muafakat Nasional?” he said.
He added that it would be inappropriate for PAS to continue chairing PN when its continued presence is damaging the federal Opposition coalition.
He also questioned whether PAS’s actions were undermining the coalition’s partners.
“Would that not be better than PAS being seen as trying to sabotage Bersatu, PN and other parties that wish to remain with PN?”
Tun Faisal said PAS had been involved in political engagements outside PN, including alleged discussions linked to reviving MN with their supposed political rival Umno.
He also claimed that PAS had met with Pakatan Harapan leaders without the knowledge of PN components.
He added PAS had shown limited loyalty to the PN brand in certain states.
Among other issues raised, he said PN decision-making had been slowed due to internal processes requiring referrals to PAS leadership and its Syura Council.
He further claimed that PAS’s dominance within PN had affected the coalition’s image, making it less appealing to non-Malay voters.
Tun Faisal also alleged delays in implementing key PN decisions, including appointments and internal reforms.
