Fans of paint trends, the wait is finally over. The BEHR 2027 Color of the Year paint has finally been announced, and the winner is… Grounded.

Grounded (T27-01) is a sophisticated olive green that shifts between moss and olive, with subtle brown undertones that add warmth and depth. Inspired by nature, it has an earthy quality without looking overly dark or heavy.

“Grounded felt right for that shift because there’s more happening in it than you see at first glance,” says Kayla Kratz, Head of Color at Behr Paint Company. “It moves between moss and olive, with subtle brown undertones that give the green warmth and weight. The moss gives it life, the olive brings warmth and the earth underneath gives it roots.”

What to Know About Behr’s Paint Color ‘Grounded’

Grounded is part of Behr’s 2027 Color Trends Palette. Color choices this year range from warm neutrals and earthy greens to muted pinks, soft blues, and deeper shades as well.

According to Kratz, Behr’s selection represents what people want from their homes.

“There’s still a strong desire for home to be the place where we can exhale,” says Kratz. “What’s changing is how we create that feeling. We’re making room for more warmth, depth and personality, even in spaces designed to feel calm.”

Grounded pairs naturally with warm wood, stone, leather, linen, brass, bronze, and other finishes with warmth and texture. Homeowners who aren’t ready to repaint an entire room can try it on a door, built-in, bathroom vanity, or kitchen island, according to Kratz.

Why Olive Green Can Be Both Trendy and Timeless

Timeless and trendy tend to be thought of as opposites. However, olive green is one of those colors that fits both descriptions.

Melissa Franco, Senior Set Designer/Set Stylist at Trusted Media Brands, sees Grounded as a warmer alternative to the cooler grays and whites that have dominated interiors in recent years.

“My first reaction to Grounded was that it feels warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully sophisticated,” says Franco. “It has a cozy, comforting quality that immediately makes a space feel more inviting, while still feeling elevated and polished. I especially appreciate that it moves away from the cooler, more sterile grays and whites that have been so common with home interiors in recent years.”

Franco also sees olive green as a color that has become versatile enough to work almost like a neutral. It can sit alongside a range of materials and design styles without demanding that the rest of the room follow one specific look.

“I do think olive green still feels fresh for 2027, especially because it has evolved into a very versatile, modern neutral!” says Franco. “Green continues to be popular in interiors because it brings a natural, calming feel to a space and works well with a wide range of materials and design styles.”

That versatility also extends to where Grounded can be used and what can be paired with it. Franco recommends the shade for rooms meant to feel calm and collected, then layering in warmer finishes and natural textures to complement its earthy undertones.

“It has enough depth to make a room feel cozy and intentional, but it is still soft enough to work as more than just an accent color,” says Franco. “I would pair it with rich cognac leather, warm wood tones, brass or aged-bronze hardware, and natural textures such as linen, rattan, jute, or wool. Together, those elements would create a space that feels relaxed, stylish, and approachable.”
