Barbie has a new boss, and she comes from Warner Bros., the studio behind the Barbie movie.

Mattel said Friday that it was naming Catherine Wood its new GM and global head of dolls, giving her oversight of long-term vision global strategy and business for brands like Barbie, American Girl, Monster High, Polly Pocket and the rest of its doll portfolio.

Wood joins from Warner Bros. Discovery, where she led global franchise strategy for entertainment properties that included Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Lord of the Rings. Now at Mattel she will be responsible for sharpening and executing on the strategies for the doll brands, working across Mattel Studios, product development, design, marketing, commercial, consumer products and experiences, among other parts of the company.

“Dolls have a unique ability to bring brands and stories to life through play, imagination, and self-expression,” Wood says. “What drew me to Mattel is the opportunity to bring a franchise perspective to an extraordinary portfolio of brands, each with its own heritage, audience, and potential. I’m excited to work with the teams across Mattel to build on what makes these brands distinctive and create new ways for them to grow, evolve, and connect with fans around the world.”

The timing of Wood’s hire happens to coincide with another executive move involving the two companies: Mattel’s former CEO Ynon Kreiz started this week as the co-CEO of Skydance, the new owner of Warner Bros.
