On April 12th, 2026, X / Twitter user @ImStillDissin posted a clip from what they claimed to be the upcoming film Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender with the caption, "Nickelodeon accidentally emailed me the entire Avatar aang movie," which received over 30.3 million views and 128,000 likes in just two days. The email claim is currently unverified.
Later that day, the same X user uploaded a second clip with the caption, "I wasn't kidding about it being the WHOLE movie either." The post received 2.8 million views and 32,000 likes in two days. Both videos received DMCA strikes shortly after.
The same day, April 12th, 2026, an early script for the film leaked on 4chan's /co/ (Comics & Cartoons) board, with users confirming that lines from the leaked videos match up.

The X / Twitter incident regarding the Avatar movie leak was widely reported by mainstream outlets like IGN, Polygon and Gizmodo in mid-April 2026 as it continued generating discourse online.
In the following days, more leaks from the film would surface, inevitably culminating in its full release on April 13th, 2026.

Fans also began to speculate on the future of the franchise and Avatar Studios following the leaks. On April 13th, 2026, X user @neogalaxite posted a humorous reaction, stating, "they’re shutting down avatar studios cause of y’all any minute now." The post received over 379,200 views and 8,000 likes in one day.

The situation escalated quickly, as full leaks of the entire movie began to proliferate on X / Twitter and other sites in the following days.
On April 14th, 2026, X user @70_74_20 posted the movie in its entirety, which received over 1.4 million views and 37,000 likes in just a few hours. The video was later taken down via a DMCA strike.
The full film continued to circulate on X in mid-April 2026, pushed by the algorithm and easily accessible to all users, who continued discussing the viral incident.
