Zendaya has worn her fair share of archival couture on the red carpet, but one of her most talked-about looks this year cost less than $35. Now, fans can recreate the viral outfit for even less, thanks to an officially licensed “Spider-Man” T-shirt available on Amazon for under $20.
The actress turned heads during a Paris photocall for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in June when she stepped out in an oversized black graphic tee featuring a red silhouette of the web-slinging superhero. Styled as a minidress with white Christian Louboutin pumps, diamond earrings and a Rolex watch, the look quickly made the rounds online — particularly after stylist Law Roach revealed that he had sourced the vintage shirt on eBay for just $34.99.
“Style doesn’t always have to cost a fortune,” Roach wrote on his Instagram Story alongside a screenshot of the original listing, which showed a pre-owned, size 2XL Marvel tee.
The original shirt was a vintage Mad Engine design from 2007, but Amazon is now selling a nearly identical version through its Merch on Demand program. Dubbed the “Marvel Spider-Man Vintage Paris Premiere Fan Event T-Shirt,” the officially licensed release recreates the original’s striking red-on-black graphic, depicting Spider-Man crouched in an action pose against a dark background.
The shirt is one of the more accessible pieces of merchandise to emerge from the release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which hit theaters July 31. As Variety reported, Marvel rolled out an extensive assortment of merchandise tied to the film, including Adidas apparel, limited-edition Citizen watches, Funko collectibles and Hasbro toys.
Throughout the “Brand New Day” press tour, Zendaya and Roach continued their love affair with method-dressing red carpet dressing, leaning heavily into the superhero’s visual universe. Highlights included a red-and-blue Swarovski-encrusted Versace ensemble from 1997 and a vintage Giorgio Armani gown embellished with spiderwebs at the film’s Rome premiere.
The duo has previously employed a similar approach for Zendaya’s other films, most memorably with the futuristic Thierry Mugler robot suit she wore to the London premiere of “Dune: Part Two” and the tennis-inspired ensembles that accompanied the release of “Challengers.”
