  • Hear me out. What if we introduced an age cap in consulting?

I'm a 25F consultant, naturally dynamic and love challenges. I've been in the industry for 2+ years now, following a series of 3 internships at Big 4 firms.

  • After working under various Managers, Senior Managers, and Partners-both men and women- I've started to notice a clear pattern regarding age and performance.

  • * Managers & Senior Managers should be capped at 35- 37 years old.

  • Beyond this point, I've noticed a significant drop in the energy required to keep up with fast- paced trends and the evolving mindset of the younger generation.

  • While they definitely have the industry experience, their ability to lead a high-energy team effectively seems to plateau.

  • There's a disconnect that experience alone can't fix. * Partners should not exceed 50 years old.

  • My current Partner is over 60, and honestly? He's perpetually exhausted. He has so many balls in the air that he lacks the focus needed for any single project.

  • It feels like the "vision" is there, but the execution and mental availability just aren't. In an industry that prides itself on being "cutting- edge" and "fast-moving," why do we have leadership that often seems to be running out of steam?

  • Am I being too harsh, or have you noticed the same "energy gap" in your firms?

  • MrZenumiFangShort As they said in last week's Pitt episode, everybody who's old knows what it is to be young, but nobody young knows what it is to be old.

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply Sure. But what's your take on the age cap in consulting?

  • in your scenario, would a partner do after age 50? It's way too early for retirement, and there's not really much room to move up from there. So you'd be forcing people out of the company based on age, and that is highly illegal.

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply great, have a good day

  • TeenySod Since we're all being outspoken here, I think you are an ageist ignorant making generic assumptions based on your own personal experience.

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply yeah that's the point of sharing personal opinion, duh

  • Joezepey Yeah the opinion was that this is insane. Generalizing roles into age categories is an insane idea. If you ever offered that idea to a client you'd be laughed out of the room

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply Who cares about clients here. I'm talking about group dynamics within team members.

  • Commercial_Ad707 >I've been in the industry for 2+ years now, following a series of 3 internships Oh, so you're new here, like 9 months collectively

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply collectively like 4 years, maybe you can relearn to count right?

  • darksnes I wonder if you'll still feel this way when you're 38

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply Surely not but I won't be the same 38 guy who's playing my manager now

  • offbrandcheerio What? Your entire job as a consultant is caring about clients.

  • Adorable_Ad_3315 Original Poster's Reply but this is not what i'm talking about in this post; you're not getting the point of the problematic here
